Happiness

To the Mama a few years behind us…

This was unexpected.

One day the universe slipped in the back door and handed you something you never imaged.

Along with the unknown you have been handed a laundry list of things that could go wrong, things that aren’t labeled as ‘good’ or ‘normal’.

I know in the middle of all your worry you are searching for a family, a story, an image to give you a glimpse into the future, something to show you the guarantee that life promised you, that it will be all be ok.

So here is an image for you, and if you want, sit next to our family for a while, give your heart and your mind some rest.

It is more than ok.

I’ll answer your question, the one deep inside that you’re afraid to ask out loud. I’m going to answer it now, clearly and definitively.

I’ll answer it loudly so it resonates with you all your days, and when the time comes - if you feel it as truly as I do - you will pass it along to the mama who comes next.

Yes. We are happy.

Deeply, to the center of us, happy.

Life’s guarantee isn’t that happiness is owed to us, in fact what lands easily in our laps rarely brings us the pride we long for.

The only guarantee is that true happiness will be found in all the places we were told it couldn’t be, and we went searching anyways.

When we were told to turn back and start over, we went ahead and discovered.
